Specialised Youth Services Fulfilling Unmet Needs Of At-Risk Children

In light of the state of at-risk youth who are vulnerable to experiencing negative outcomes such as poverty, homelessness, substance abuse, mental health issues, and criminal justice involvement, local agencies offer specialised youth services.

Five days off-grid in one of Australia’s most unde Five days off-grid in one of Australia’s most underrated coastal towns.

Robe and the Southend bush camping grounds right on the beach. Days filled with 4WD tracks, cruising the coastline, beach and pier fishing, and sandboarding massive dunes that felt more like the Sahara than South Australia. Nights spent around the campfire, laughing, slowing down, and genuinely connecting. Along the way, we crossed paths with all kinds of wildlife and even had a local drop off fresh crayfish he’d caught that very day.

But the real story wasn’t just the adventure.

It was watching the young guys grow.

Despite their differences, they became more connected as a group, learning to trust each other, step outside their comfort zones, and take on new challenges with confidence.
“This didn’t even feel like five days,” one of them said. “It felt way longer… in a good way.”

Each participant was given real responsibility. Roles included managing sunscreen and hydration, running activities, coordinating camp logistics, leading clean-ups, and helping capture the experience using GoPros and cameras to create content. Everyone had something to own. Everyone mattered.

And that’s where the shift happened.

This camp was packed with everything. Adventure, leadership, independence, laughter, and connection. Every individual walked away having learnt something new, built stronger friendships, and developed real relationship skills along the way.

Five days that will be remembered not just for where we went,
but for who they became along the way.

This is what intentional experiences can do.
From early-morning gym sessions to late-afternoon From early-morning gym sessions to late-afternoon cook-ups.
From fishing off piers, hiking trails, and 4WD tracks…
to quiet conversations, big breakthroughs, and moments that mattered more than the camera could ever capture.

This year wasn’t about chasing perfection.
It was about showing up consistently, intentionally, and with heart.

We supported young people to build confidence, independence, and real-world skills.
We created safe spaces to try, fail, learn, and grow.
We served families, backed carers, and worked alongside support coordinators who trust us with what matters most.

There were camps, day programs, community service projects, creative media days, mentoring sessions, gym routines, shared meals, laughs, hard days, wins, and quiet progress that doesn’t always make a highlight reel but changes lives all the same.

To our participants: you showed courage.
To families and carers: thank you for trusting us.
To our mentors and team: your consistency, patience, and belief in young people is the foundation of everything we do.

As we head into the new year, our mission stays the same:
support young people to move forward one step, one skill, one moment at a time.

Here’s to another year of growth, connection, and purpose.

this was drag-screaming, arms-burning, heart-racing chaos.

The Kickstart crew hit the water and landed absolute MONSTER snapper:

Strong hooks. Heavy tackle.
Big battles that tested patience, teamwork, and grit.

Moments like this aren’t just about the fish
they’re about confidence, connection, and memories that stick for life.

This time of year, a lot of the focus is on what w This time of year, a lot of the focus is on what we’re giving or receiving.

But this week, our Tuesday program paused to ask a different question:
How can we serve someone else?

Our crew spent the day supporting a local family in our community who are navigating an incredibly tough season, with a young family member currently battling cancer. As the demands of treatment take priority, everyday tasks like lawn care can quietly pile up so we offered to help.

Together, the young people rolled up their sleeves to mow overgrown lawns, pull weeds, clear rubbish, and get the space back to a place that felt manageable again.

What made the day special wasn’t just the work it was what happened along the way.

They planned jobs, allocated tasks, supported one another, stayed focused, and worked as a team to get the job done properly. There were conversations, laughs, moments of problem-solving, and a shared sense of purpose that carried the group through the task.

In a season where it’s easy to focus on receiving, this was a powerful reminder that giving doesn’t always look like presents — sometimes it looks like time, effort, and showing up for someone when they need it most.

We’re incredibly proud of the way this group stepped up, not just to learn practical skills, but to live out empathy, service, and community in a real and meaningful way.

Sometimes the most impactful lessons aren’t taught they’re lived.
